Riki’s a safe pair of hands

RIKI Wessels’ reliability at first slip means he has claimed more catches than other player – excluding wicket-keepers – in Division Two of the Specsavers County Championship this summer.

The Worcestershire batsman has so far pouched 19 catches – two more than Derbyshire’s Wayne Madsen – from his 10 matches since moving from Nottinghamshire.

Wessels’ companion for the majority of the time in the field at second slip is Daryl Mitchell and he has another 13 catches to his credit during 2019. The opening batsman was the leading catcher in Division One last year with 21 from 14 matches.

Worcestershire wicket-keeper-batsman Ben Cox has also been a safe pair of hands in tandem with Wessels and Mitchell.




The 27-year-old keeper has so far picked up 31 scalps in 2019 – 30 caught and one stumped – in the Championship.

The leading keeper in terms of victims in Division Two so far this season is Sussex’s Ben Brown with 3
