Quickfire goals down City

TWO GOALS in as many second half minutes condemned Worcester City to back-to-back defeats for the first time this year as they lost 2-1 at Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday (February 22).

Bradley Barraclough and Callum Howe turned the game on its head for the hosts, who had been trailing to Daniel Nti’s 30th minute header.

The Trinity leapfrogged their opponents up to 15th in the Skrill Conference North after their home success, with Carl Heeley’s men dropping a place to 17th.

The visitors started the game in Lincolnshire full of confidence and could have taken the lead after five minutes when Aaron Brown played in Kristian Ramsey-Dickson but the strikers effort was unintentionally blocked by Nti.

After half an hour Ebby Nelson-Addy picked out Ramsey-Dickson with Aaron Williams taking over and seeing his deflected effort slide just wide of the hosts goal.

Steven Leslie whipped in the resulting corner which Nti glanced home to give City a deserved lead and join fellow striker Ethan Moore at the top of Worcester’s scoring charts, with 11 goals apiece.

Aaron Williams nearly doubled the Blue and Whites advantage shortly before the break when his 25-yard curler went inches wide of Phil Barnes goal.

City continued strongly after the break with Ramsey-Dickson testing Barnes yet again.

After 52 minutes the comeback started when Darryn Stamp’s flick on found Barraclough who used his strength to turn and fired into the corner from outside the box.

Within moments Gainsborough had turned the game around when Caine Winfarrah’s corner was powerfully headed into the back of Jose Veiga’s net by Howe.

Worcester tried to draw level immediately with Leslie dragging his shot wide before Ramsey-Dickson wasted an effort from inside the six-yard box.

Gainsborough saw the game out and could of added to their tally late on when Veiga somehow denied Jamie Wootton with a fine save, but Heeley will be left wondering what could have been after their first half performance.
