Pennell says fans are key to hopes

WORCESTER Warriors fans have been urged get Sixways ‘jumping’ in a bid to inspire their side to victory in the play-off final.

That was the message from Chris Pennell, who believes the Sixways faithful can play a massive role in helping Worcester overcome Bristol.

Warriors hold a one-point lead in the tie after Niall Annett crashed over at the death and Ryan Lamb landed the resultant conversion last Wednesday.

And, with a sell-out crowd set to pack out Sixways, Pennell has called on Worcester’s vocal supporters to help them ‘finish the job’.

“It was incredibly noisy on Wednesday night in Bristol’s favour, so I know first-hand that the crowd here will drown out any other noise in the stadium,” Pennell said.

“The atmosphere is going to be amazing and hopefully the game will be as good a spectacle as Wednesday night and given that there is so much riding on it it should be an amazing occasion.

“The ball is in our court in terms of players to make sure the place is jumping and we have got our fans cheering for the right reasons.

“But even if things aren’t going our way then I know that everyone is going to get behind us and it will make a difference

“Either way we are incredibly grateful as players and we will be giving everything we have got for each of those people.”

Pennell said their last-gasp victory at Ashton Gate had given Worcester a ‘psychological’ boost heading into the second leg.

But the 28-year-old, who was part of Worcester’s promotion-winning side in 2011, insisted it was important to not get too far ahead of themselves.

“Whether it’s elation or devastation then we will deal with it,” he said.

“But the important thing is that we just concentrate on what’s going on here over the next few days and throwing everything at it on Wednesday night.”
