Op rules out Short

WING Andy Short has been ruled out of action for up to eight weeks after undergoing an operation to repair a damaged ankle ligament.

The 24-year-old re-joined Worcester Warriors from Bristol in the summer and would have been hoping for a fresh start at Sixways.

But just five minutes into Worcester’s opening pre-season encounter against Barbarians earlier this month disaster struck for Short as he sustained an injury to his ankle.

Short had to be carried off the pitch and director of rugby Dean Ryan revealed the versatile back could be out for two months.

“Andy has damaged the ligament which holds his two bones together at the bottom of his foot and he has had an operation on it, so he will be out for upwards of eight weeks,” Ryan said.

“That is obviously a real disappointment for him and for us. We wanted to see him play as he is new to the club and he looked pretty sharp for five minutes.

“But now we are not going to see him for a while, so that is going to be tough for him and us.”
