O’Donnell is named new Warriors Women captain

Worcester Editorial 1st Sep, 2019   0

BACK-row forward Lyndsay O’Donnell has been appointed as Warriors Women captain for the 2019/20 season.

O’Donnell joined the club in 2011 and was a member of the squad who won the Premiership title in 2012/2013.

The 26-year-old has three caps for the Scottish national side, appearing in her country’s last Six Nations win back in 2017.

O’Donnell also captain Scotland Under-20s and was a key part of the team which secured Warriors’ first ever wins in the Tyrrells Premier 15s at the end of last season.

“It’s a really big honour to be selected as captain. It’s a club with a lot of history and, having played here for a number of years, it’s great to be the successor to so many great captains before,” she said.

“I like to think I lead by example. I like to get on, do my job and then step in when I need to direct and delegate.”

O’Donnell succeeds England hooker Lark Davies, who has left Sixways, as captain and director of rugby Roy Davies believes she is the perfect choice to lead the side.

“I’m delighted Lyndsay accepted the role of captain. She’s an integral part of the club and regardless of what role she has she takes ownership of the environment and demands high standards of others,” he said.

“She has excellent empathy and interacts well with the players around her and is good at managing upwards to ensure the coaching team are helping to support the players’ needs.

“I’m looking forward to working with her this season to continue to progress the Warriors Women programme.”
