Moran on board for City stint

Worcester Editorial 9th Mar, 2019   0

TALENTED teenager Ethan Moran has become the first Worcester City player to sign up for the Blue & Whites for next season.

Moran, 19, joins Jordan Harrison and Liam Lockett on contracts until the end of the season and City chiefs hope the duo will follow the attack-minded player in putting pen to paper for next season.

City went into tonight’s (Wednesday) game with Coventry Sphinx on the back of a morale-boosting 5-2 triumph at Quorn on Saturday which ended a four-match losing streak for John Snape’s men.

The rearranged clash kicks off three games in 11 days at the Victoria Ground for City with the visit of Sphinx being followed by a clash with 16th-placed Romulus on Saturday before Boldmere St Michaels visit the following Saturday.

Victory against Sphinx would take City into the top seven and, while promotion is an extreme outside possibility, the Blue & Whites will be looking to finish the campaign on a high.

Saturday’s trip to the East Midlands saw City race into a 3-0 lead at half-time thanks to a brace from Harrison either side of an effort from Luke English.

City’s cause was further aided when home keeper Haydn Whitcombe was given his marching orders for clattering into Jamal Lawrence and talented midfielder Liam Lockett made it four after the break past defender Callum Ball in the Quorn goal.

A brief rally saw the home side pull it back to 4-2 with goals from Stephen Hart and Brad Maslen-Jones before Lockett’s deflected effort in the closing stages wrapped up a much-needed three points for Snape’s side.
