Moore the hero as City snatch point

A LATE strike from Ethan Moore handed Worcester City a precious point at Skrill Conference North high-fliers Solihull Moors on Boxing Day (Thursday).

City’s top scorer, with nine goals this season, pounced in the 87th minute to earn a 1-1 draw at Damson Park after Ryan Beswick had earlier put the hosts ahead.

Second-placed Moors also had Michael Blackwood sent off for two bookable offences before Moore dramatically equalised to leave the visitors a point and a place above the relegation zone.

In an opening of few chances, Solihull asserted their authority after half an hour and Reece Fleet hit the woodwork before George Williams cleared an Aron Wint header off the line.

After the break Worcester grew in confidence and Danny Glover curled a free-kick just wide before Moore and Shabir Khan both went close.

After 63 minutes, though, it was the hosts who made the breakthrough when Beswick’s deflected effort crept under Jose Veiga.

Worcester’s cause was given a helping hand ten minutes later when full-back Blackwood was awarded a second yellow card for pulling back Ellis Deeney, having seen yellow in the first half for handball.

Carl Heeley’s men dominated the latter stages and got their reward when Moore latched onto a Sam Smith flick to poke the ball past Jasbir Singh with three minutes to go.

City will be looking to keep their good run of festive form up when they face struggler’s Gloucester City at Aggborough tomorrow (Saturday) 3pm kick-off.
