WORCESTERSHIRE captain Daryl Mitchell has pledged his future to the county by signing a contract until the end of the 2016 season.
The 29-year-old Badsey born right-hander, made his first class debut for the county in May 2005 and became captain in August 2010 following the resignation of Vikram Solanki.
Since his debut, Mitchell has risen through the ranks and scored 6,647 first class runs for Worcestershire CCC including a career best 298 against Somerset in 2009.
The 2013 campaign saw Mitchell pass 1,000 first class runs for the third time in his career and also amass a further 631 runs at an average of 48.53 in one day cricket which included his first one day century in Worcestershire’s YB40 win over Sussex.
“I’m delighted to commit my future to the club in what is an exciting era for Worcestershire CCC,” Mitchell said.
“It’s a great honour and privilege to play and lead the club I supported as a boy and I’m looking forward to the next three years and beyond.”
Director of cricket, Steve Rhodes, said: “Signing Daryl for three years is a major boost to the club and it now means we have a group of players committed long-term to Worcestershire CCC.
“This fits into our strategy of holding on to our best talent, especially a locally born player who has come through our Academy system.”
