WORCESTER Wolves director of basketball Paul James is hoping a fortnight’s break away from action will help his team go on another winning run going into the New Year.
Joint league leaders Wolves return to league action tomorrow (Friday) when they entertain bottom-of-the-table Surrey United at the University of Worcester Arena starting at 7.30pm.
The original staging of the fixture was scheduled last month but had to be postponed because of traffic difficulties encountered by the London based outfit.
A win for Wolves will put them two points clear at the top of the table going into Saturday’s and Sunday’s BBL Championship fixtures. Surrey go into the game still looking for their first league win of the season having lost all their 13 games played so far.
But Paul James has warned his side they must be focused on following up their win over Durham in their last league match on December 1.
“The week off meant that I was able to give the players a little more recovery time than they have been getting,” he said.
“So hopefully some of those niggling injuries will have cleared up and we can make another run before the New Year.
“Surrey have become more and more competitive over the weeks and especially now with some good additions to the team.
“They will play up-tempo and will play hard for the whole game. We need to stay focused on the job in hand.”
James also expressed his delight at how his side have adapted to different styles of opposition so far this season,
“I think we have shown so far this season that we are not a one-dimensional team and that we are able to win in many different ways,” he added.
“We have a way that we would like to play, but this is not always going to be the best way to get the result we want.”
