TOM FELL’s maiden first class hundred helped Worcestershire to a dominant lead during the third day in their LVCC clash against Leicestershire.

Fell’s 124 and skipper Daryl Mitchell’s fourth century of the season made for the perfect birthday gift for Worcestershire director of Cricket Steve Rhodes as his side set their opponents a huge 404 to win after enjoying a day of batting dominance at Grace Road.

Starting the penultimate day on 76-1, Worcestershire scored more than 350 runs in the day before declaring on 444-8.

Mitchell reached three figures off 160 balls with a boundary – the 14th of his innings – off Charlie Shreck on the third day of the Division Two encounter as his brilliant form with the bat continued.

Mitchell’s 120 followed on from his century against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl and two in two innings against Glamorgan at the Swalec Stadium.

Fell had been cruelly denied a first hundred last season when he was unbeaten on 94 against Kent before the final day was washed out.

But this time the 20-year-old went to the landmark with a four on the legside off Dan Redfern. It came off 215 balls with 12 fours.

Alexei Kervezee and Tom Kohler-Cadmore also contributed scoring 57 and 56 respectively.

Worcestershire go into tomorrow’s (Wednesday) final day needing ten wickets to win after Leicestershire closed on 20-0.
