FULL back Ben Howard says the shackles will be off Worcester Warriors when they go up against Sale Sharks in the Amlin Challenge Cup at Sixways tomorrow (Saturday, 3pm).

The 20-year-old was part of the side which were agonisingly denied victory in the dying seconds away in France as Worcester were left to settle with a 9-9 draw at Oyonnax.

Despite the heartbreaking result, which leaves Warriors still without a win this season, Howard believes it was a step in the right direction as it was two points claimed in difficult weather conditions.

And the academy ace, who is set to make his second appearance of the campaign tomorrow, has urged his teammates to remain positive as they aim to pick up that illusive win against fellow Aviva Premiership side Sale.

“We know we have got a shape and a game plan we want to play and that has not been coming out recently in the Premiership, so ahead of last weekend we spoke about releasing the shackles,” Howard said.

“Obviously the conditions made it hard work whereas this weekend, if we get a dry track, we will hopefully show a bit more freedom in our play and more confident in our pattern and shape, so we are really looking forward to the game.”

He added: “We clearly need to get a win sooner rather than later and last weekend was certainly a missed opportunity.

“But we just need to play our game. I think we can get too worked up on how the result is going to and that is when you start not playing your natural game.

“It is important we play with freedom and if we do that I think the right results will come.”
