Heeley wants top half finish

WORCESTER City manager Carl Heeley has praised his side’s unity and said he now wants a top half finish to cap off their Skrill Conference North season.

The Blue and Whites are 14 points clear of the drop zone with a maximum of 12 left to play for, a feat which looked unlikely following their 6-1 drubbing at Bradford Park Avenue back in January.

Heeley now has his sights on ending the season with a flourish, although just two wins in seven league outings has dented their chances of eclipsing last season’s points tally.

“For me since we went and won three or four games after Histon we’ve been looking up the table.” he said. “We’re looking to get more points than we did last season and we’re well on track for that.

“Every one of the players show characteristics to win a game of football, and the desire not to get beat and stick together is shining through. As I keep saying, you don’t get as many clean sheets as we have this season without all of those qualities.”

City have also had to deal with a constant flow of departures and injuries throughout the season, but the Worcester boss paid tribute to the flexibility his players have shown.

“You’ve got lads like Ellis Deeney and George Williams who are very versatile,” he added.

“We’ve got a very versatile bunch of lads and when you ask them to do jobs and play out of position they look comfortable.”
