Heeley hails resurgent City

CARL Heeley has paid tribute to the fighting spirit of his Worcester City players following their recent run of excellent form in Skrill Conference North.

The picture looked bleak for the Blue and Whites at the start of the year as they languished near the foot of the table, but some astute signings and a boost in confidence have seen City win five of their last six and climb to 16th place.

Heeley believes the added experience of recent signings has had the desired effect on the side and he was delighted with the current string of results.

“I think the changes we’ve made have given us that little bit more experience and it’s rubbed off on the boys now, they’ve actually learnt and improved as the season’s gone on and we’re getting the results we deserve now,” he said.

“At the start of the season we knew we would be in for a tough season and we set our stall out to be difficult to break down, and pretty much how the season has mapped out is what we anticipated.

“At times we’ve found goals hard to come by, but in these last six weeks we’ve been more fluent and scored more goals, and continued to be difficult to break down.

“It’s 15 points out of 18, it’s a great return and we’re in a nice little run of form.”

The City boss also indicated new faces may be likely, following the departure of midfielder Richard Taundry, with his side now seen as a more attractive outfit to join.

“Another obstacle earlier in the season was trying to attract players to come to a side in the bottom two of the league, even bottom at some stage, but things have improved and it’s a rosier picture now,” he added.
