Heeley determined to finish the job

Worcester Editorial 5th Mar, 2014 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

CARL Heeley has insisted he has no intention of failing in his bid to maintain Worcester City’s Skrill Conference North status.

The Blue and Whites boss has defied all odds this season, leading a team in exile, on a shoestring budget up to 15th in the league and 11 points clear of the drop zone.

A superb start to 2014 has seen City take 18 points from a possible 30, only bettered by six teams, pulling them away from danger and Heeley is adamant that is where they will stay.

“I was given a job in the summer and it was to manage the transition moving from our own ground to here (Aggborough), deal with losing pretty much all of my squad and try to work on a vastly reduced budget and on top of that keep us in the league,” he said.

“I was up for the challenge, I discussed it with Matt (Gardiner) and John Snape and we said let’s give it a go and we have no intention of failing.”

Heeley also reserved special praise for the loyal supporters who make the trip every week up the A449 to watch the side play at their temporary home in Kidderminster.

“The number of fans who are travelling here have been absolutely wonderful and credit to them,” he added.

“I want to do well for this club and so do my players and staff, but I think we’re forgetting our supporters want us to do well.

“If we all stick together and they cheer us on and show their gratitude to the players when we win games of football, and even when we got beat at home against Telford they kept sticking with us.”
