George faces battle to play again this

EXPERIENCED hooker Dan George could miss the rest of the season after suffering knee ligament damage.

The former Gloucester and London Welsh front rower sustained the injury during Worcester Warriors’ clash against Yorkshire Carnegie earlier this month.

Head coach Carl Hogg revealed George, who has made 19 appearances in his first season for the club, was waiting to receive results from a scan, which would show the extent of the damage.

But Hogg said he was hopeful he would see the 28-year-old back in action before the end of the campaign.

“He has damaged his mcl (medial and crucial ligaments), so he has had a scan,” Hogg said.

“We are hoping it is not too long and we are hopeful we can turn him around for some stage of the play-offs.”

The Welshman, who was part of London Welsh’s promotion winning side in 2012, has been in impressive for in recent weeks.

However, Hogg believed the number two shirt was still hotly contested at the club, with Agustin Creevy, Niall Annett and Ben Sowrey also battling it out for the jersey.

“Dan did play very well (in the British and Irish Cup final), but it is a position that we have got really healthy competition,” he said.

“Himself, Niall and Gus have been fighting for that position all season and it has been really good to see. We have said all along, if we can create competition with two or even three players as we have got around hooker then that’s great as everyone gets challenged.”
