WORCESTER City assistant manager Matt Gardiner says his side are only focused on the next game as they bid to avoid Skrill Conference North relegation.
The Blue and Whites looked in deep trouble before the turn of the year, but an excellent January run – which saw four wins out of six – has propelled them to 17th place and six points clear of the drop zone.
Three of their victories – Colwyn Bay, Altrincham and Solihull Moors – came against promotion hopefuls, but the City assistant knows his players have to take points from the teams around them to stay in touch.
“All we’re focusing on is a game at a time,” he said. “We’re now playing teams in and around us and that’s where it counts, that’s the next challenge.
“We’ve got to focus on Worcester City and our games. I know it sounds like a cliché but it’s absolute fact. You can’t get your head up apart from looking at what we’re doing.
“We have 15 games left and we’ve just got to try and get as many points on the board, we’ve got confidence now, we want to move on and we cant wait for the next match.”
Worcester have been handed another boost in their campaign with the news that on-loan defender Jamie Grimes has extended his loan by a further two months.
Grimes, from Kidderminster Harriers, has won four of the five games he has played for City and is sure to play a big part as their season comes to an end.
“I think he’s been fantastic,” Gardiner said. “He’s been a breath of fresh air and he came in at just the right time.”
