Friends reunited in revamped City squad

Worcester Editorial 17th Jun, 2020   0

CITY chiefs have continued to shape the Blue and Whites’ squad ahead of the new season, with new faces joining a host of stars from last season’s aborted campaign.

Aaron Roberts, Dan Okojie and top scorer Sean Brain have all agreed terms for the new season alongside captain Craig Jones.

Brain made 23 starts and scored 18 goals during the 2019/2020 season following his signature in early September.

He made his debut away at Selston as a late substitute where he took home the match ball.

Manager Ash Vincent said: “Brainy showed last year he knows where the net is and has a great track record, I am pleased he is staying for the new season and long may his urge for scoring goals continue.

“Craig typifies the exact character we want within the football club and that showed with his performances on the pitch over last season but also his manor off it.”

Aaron Birch has also returned to the club for the coming season. Birch signed last summer and took the captain’s armband and made 12 appearances before Alvechurch swooped for his signature following their appointment of a new manager.

“Everyone knows what Birchy brings to the team both on and off the field, he was in my plans right from the start of this summer and I am delighted we have agreed a deal and secured him for the season ahead,” Vincent said.

Experienced midfielder Tom Turton, who had stints last season at both Stourbridge and Alvechurch, has also signed on the dotted line. In 2016/2017 he was part of the Alvechurch team that won the Midland Football League. He has also previously played for Sutton Coldfield Town and Romulus.

He will be joined by former Alvechurch team-mate Ryan Winwood who followed in Turton’s footsteps by starting the season at Stourbridge before a change in management saw him move to Alvechurch.
