WORCESTER Raiders have an international footballer in their ranks after Vanylson Silva was called up to represent England.

While it’s not quite a journey to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup, Vanylson will represent the England Colleges national team at a tournament next year.

After making it through two trials in Melton, Vanylson has been selected for the forthcoming fixtures including one against Australia.

He will then jet off to Italy to participate in a tournament at the end of February into March.

“Everyone at Raiders is proud to see a homegrown talent achieve such a great feat. We wish Vanylson all the best in his upcoming internationals,” a Raiders spokesman said.

On the pitch, four first-half goals from Joe Bellingham helped Raiders continue their fine recent form with a 5-2 hammering of Mangotsfield United on Saturday (November 19).

While the hosts pulled one back before the break, Brogan Halpin notched a fifth to send third placed Raiders into

Saturday’s (November 26) clash with Hellenic League table-toppers Cribbs in the best possible shape.

Karl Gormley’s men sit four points behind the Bristol side with a four-point cushion to Hereford Pegasus.

Any slip-up for Cribbs could see Malvern Town climb to the summit, with the Hillsiders welcoming Bradford Town to the HDAnywhere Community Stadium.

Malvern lie one point behind Cribbs with both having played 17 games.

Town go into the clash on the back of a hard-earned 2-1 win at Chipping Sodbury Town at the weekend.

The breakthrough came on seven minutes when Joe Bates was given two bites at the cherry inside the area and as the ball deflected to Lewis Spurrier, he was able to apply the finish.

After Bates saw an effort deflected into the arms of the ‘keeper, the home side were able to break and level through McSharry after 51 minutes.

A free-kick from Jack Horrell was well saved by the home ‘keeper before Town regained the lead when Bobbie Dale was able to fire home amidst home appeals for offside as they failed to clear their lines.

Meanwhile new Worcester City chief Chris Cornes will hope to take charge for the first time when Lichfield City head to Claines Lane on Saturday.

New signings striker Dylan Hart and midfielder Connor Jakeways will aim to make their belated debuts while defender and former City captain, Jordan Stoddart has returned to the club.

The Blue and Whites saw their clash at Wolverhampton Casuals on Saturday postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
