CELEBRATIONS were on the timetable after RGS Worcester’s 2-0 win over Kings School in the sixth annual football challenge cup at Sixways.

After a goalless first half, RGS emerged stronger after the break, with the surge in performance put down to head of football Gary Leeds’ half-time team talk.

As the momentum built, RGS took the lead in the 75th minute through a goal from Harvey Shaw.

With the deadlock broken, RGS then continued to press forward and a free kick 25 yards from goal narrowly went over the bar.

Charlie Williams scored in the closing stages to double the advantage and ensure RGS skipper Kobe Chikosi added to his superb defensive performance by getting his hands on the trophy.

“Well done to both teams for providing such an entertaining match,” said Mr Leeds.

“With a strong defence and attacking strikers, I was delighted how the RGS team showed real determination, skill and sportsmanship on the pitch.

“Thank you to parents and staff members who have supported the RGS football team this season.”

Headmaster John Pitt, added: “What an amazing evening and the team showed real patience and determination to win through.

“It is fantastic to see our boys’ and girls’ sport doing so well at the moment.”
