FOOTBALL: Clubs hope for better weather in bid for league and cup joy

IN-FORM Malvern Town will hope to return to action when Willand Rovers visit the HD Anywhere Community Stadium tomorrow (Saturday).

Town’s recent run was halted by the weather at the weekend when the trip to Tavistock was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

With just one defeat from their last six outings and three wins in a row, Town head into the clash in good spirits.

“The improvement in the team over recent weeks is there for all to see,” said co-manager, Stephen Cleal.

Last time Town were in action at home they recorded a 2-1 win over Mousehole

“We’re playing with plenty of confidence and belief now; when we went a goal down to Mousehole, we didn’t panic.

“We had the better chances in the first half and also had a few penalty appeals turned down, then when they scored you started to think that it wasn’t going to be our day, but credit to the lads because they kept going and scored two good goals to get our reward.

“It was a deserved win. If you work hard, you get your rewards and it’s clear to see how far we have come on since the start of the season.

“The lads are looking to continue their progression; we’re determined to maintain the high standards that we have set and add to our points’ tally.”

Meanwhile Worcester City will also be hoping for better from the great British weather after last Saturday’s FA Vase clash was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

Chris Cornes men will try again tomorrow when Boston Town visit Claines Lane.

A place in the last 32 of the FA Vase is the reward a for the free-scoring Blue and Whites who will tackle the United Counties Premier Division (North) side on the back of a 2-0 win at Highworth Town on Wednesday (December 6).

Goals from Izak Reid and Jamie Insall in the first half propelled City to their 14th win in 17 Hellenic League games.

City hold a two point lead over Corsham Town and have three games in hand over their promotion rivals.

The victory keeps City in the hunt on four fronts ahead of a busy December for the Blue and Whites with Saturday’s clash the first of nine fixtures in the next three weeks.

Worcester Raiders will look to return to winning ways after a 4-1 reverse to Brinscombe and Thrupp in the Marsh Challenge Cup.

Karl Gornley’s men will have the ideal opportunity to exact revenge as Wednesday’s opponents are the visitors to Sixways on Saturday in the Hellenic League.

Raiders currently sit sixth in the Hellenic League but just four points behind third placed Royal Wootton Bassett Town who lead the chasing pack behind the runaway Corsham and City.
