FOOTBALL: City seek to continue fine league form

BOTTOM of the table Wantage Town are next at Claines Lane for free-scoring Worcester City as they seek to chase down runaway Hellenic League leaders Corsham Town

Two early Kyle Belmonte and Liam Lockett goals plus a late finish from Elliott Hartley was enough to secure three points on Tuesday (September 26) as City overcame Hereford Pegasus 3-1.

The game should have been won in the first half with the amount of chances produced by the home side, but despite a late scare when Cawley Cox halved the deficit late on, Chris Cornes’ men made sure of the points and sent the fans home happy.

Victory capped a successful four days for the Blue and Whites after their penalty shoot-out win over Rugby Borough in the FA Vase last Saturday after the sides could not be separated in normal time which finished 2-2.

City will face Sleaford Town in the next round of the FA Vase at Claines Lane on Saturday, October 21.

Cornes’ men are five points behind Corsham, although have two games in hand.

Worcester Raiders make the trip to Brimscombe and Thrupp in the Hellenic League on Saturday while Malvern Town will seek to end their six match run without a win at home to Paulton Rovers.

The Southern League Division One side put in another performance of two halves as they went down to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Larkhall Athletic on Tuesday (September 26) despite goals from Jack Watts and Joe Davies.
