Finch thrilled to get off the mark

Worcester Editorial 30th Jun, 2019   0

YOUNG pace ace Adam Finch was delighted to claim his first scalp for Worcestershire at senior level.

Finch’s breakthrough moment arrived with the new ball on the opening day of the Specsavers County Championship clash with Sussex at Kidderminster.

Sussex opener Will Beer pushed forward and could only nick a Finch delivery through to the safe hands of keeper Ben Cox.

It was the cue for Finch to receive plenty of congratulations from his team-mates for the first of three wickets taken during the match.

Finch, who shares the same Wordsley birthplace as county legend Don Kenyon, said: “It was really nice to get my first wicket and there were a lot of congratulations around. We are a tight-knit group and really good mates so it was good to be able to celebrate with them.

“My sister and mum were here and it was pleasing to get the first wicket in front of them as well.”

The England Under-19 bowler is full of admiration for the performances being consistently produced by Wayne Parnell and delighted to be able to pick his brains and those of other members of the attack.

Finch said: “You can’t keep Parny out of the wickets. He is a brilliant bowler and a great guy to learn off as well – superb to have around the team.

“Every spell he bowls he seems to get a breakthrough which is a brilliant asset to have in the side.

“Obviously he is different to the other seamers with being a left-armer and he is always someone you feel is going to get a wicket

“I ask all the other bowlers how they go about things, what they find works.

“Between them they have got a vast amount of experience and it would be wrong not to ask as many questions as I can and try and pick their brains.

“It is brilliant to have Leachy (Joe Leach), Parny and Barny (Ed Barnard) all out there. They’ve played a lot of county cricket between them,” he added.
