D’Oliveira and Clarke win selection for North squad

Worcester Editorial 20th Jan, 2018   0

WORCESTERSHIRE duo Brett D’Oliveira and Joe Clarke have been included in the North squad for the series against the South which will be staged in Barbados in March.

D’Oliveira and Clarke have been named in a 13 man squad for the three game 50-overs-a-side series in the Caribbean.

The teams will each play a warm-up game on Thursday, March 15 before the three-match series at the Kensington Oval is played on March 18, 21 and 23.

The Kensington Oval will also stage the MCC’s Champion County match against Essex from March 27-30 in a spring festival of English cricket in Barbados.

It is a second successive call-up for Clarke who last year had scores of 57, 27 and 0 in a series which the South won 3-0.

The 22-year-old will link up with the squad at the completion of the England Lions tour of the West Indies in February-March.

But it is the first time that D’Oliveira has been named for the series. He and Clarke were part of the Worcestershire side which showed their prowess in 50-over cricket by topping the North Group in the Royal London One-Day Cup last summer.

Clarke scored 245 runs at an average of 30.62 and D’Oliveira 222 at 27.75 as well as having the County’s best economy rate with the ball, conceding just 4.84 runs per over.

Nottinghamshire’s Steven Mullaney (North) and Kent’s Sam Northeast (South) have been appointed as the respective captains.

Of the four players who qualified from the North Group, Warwickshire’s Sam Hain and new Lancashire signing Keaton Jennings are two of six survivors from last year’s beaten North squad alongside Ben Duckett, Clarke, Paul Coughlin and Saqib Mahmood.
