Delight as Lewis signs up

WORCESTER Warriors have bolstered their back row ahead of the Greene King IPA Championship play-offs with the signing of Ospreys flanker Sam Lewis.

The 24-year-old, who is tipped for a big future on the international stage, has made a total of 65 appearances for the Welsh region since singing his first professional contract in 2012.

Lewis, who started his career at Principality Premiership side Swansea RFC, has been a regular for the side in the Guinness PRO 12 and European Champions Cup during the last two campaigns.

But the talented open-side has agreed to leave Ospreys with immediate effect and progress his career at Championship leaders Warriors.

“The opportunity to join Warriors at such an exciting time was one that really appealed to me,” Lewis said.

“With all the facilities in place and Dean’s vision for the future, I see Sixways as the ideal place for me to develop my game and I’m looking forward to being a part of the journey.”

Lewis will fight it out with Sam Betty and Mat Gilbert for the number seven jersey this season and director of rugby Ryan said he welcomed the competition.

“Sam is a player who has experienced the highest level of club rugby from a young age and is now hungry to continue his development within a successful environment,” Ryan said.

“We are creating a competitive culture throughout our whole squad and, by integrating players of Sam’s calibre, that will only intensify as time goes on.”
