A FORMER Wales international has joined Worcester Warriors’ backroom staff as the summer shake up continues at Sixways.

Mefin Davies, who helped his country to the Six Nations Grand Slam in 2005 and was also part of their 2003 World Cup squad, has been appointed as transition coach, to work with the academy forwards and aid their development.

The role will also see him assist the club’s support of first-team forwards.

The 41-year-old, who won 38 caps for Wales, moves to Sixways after previous roles at Ospreys as development coach and head coach at Swansea.

“The academy set-up at Warriors has undergone substantial changes during the last year and I am looking forward to continuing its development,” he said.

“There are already some hugely talented young players in the squad who need to be nurtured in the most productive way.

“I am also looking forward to working with first-team players ahead of what will be an exciting season, so it’s a great time to be joining the club.”

Director of rugby Dean Ryan added: “Mefin was part of successful sides throughout his playing career and understands the environment needed to help players realise their potential.

“We have placed a significant emphases on our academy structure as we recognise the importance it will play in helping this club move forward.”
