City suffer day to forget after Khalsa turn on the power

WORCESTER City face a trip to Leicestershire this weekend to tackle high-flying Heather St John’s in the Midland Premier Division looking to bounce back from a 4-0 reverse at Sporting Khalsa.

City played the entire second half with 10 players for the third time this season and suffered the consequences with defeat in the Black Country last Saturday.

With recent signings Jack Jeys and Sean Brain missing through injury and suspension, City’s goal scoring options were limited and Ash Vincent’s men rarely troubled Khalsa keeper Sam Arnold.

City’s bad day started after just 16 minutes when Dan Okojie went off injured to be replaced by Colin Smith. City’s strike force were continually chasing long balls over the top and rarely got into decent positions or on the end of the balls.

On 38 minutes the game turned on its head when City defender Craig Jones was given a straight red card for bringing down Kieron Whittaker in the box. Dan Jezeph saved the resulting penalty but Liam Armstrong was the first to react and finished the rebound.

The woes continued in the second half as City conceded another penalty which was despatched by Josh McKenzie first time. City tried to come out on the break but Khalsa looked dangerous at every opportunity and added a third with a powerful header from McKenzie.

Khalsa then added a fourth on 82 minutes with a fantastic header by George Taylor from Alex Woodhouse’s corner.

Dates have been agreed for the games against Malvern Town and Worcester Raiders in the Worcester Senior Cup and the Smedley Crooke Memorial Charity Cup respectively.

City will face Malvern on Tuesday, October 29 at the HDAnywhere Community Stadium (7.45pm) and Raiders in the Smedley Crooke on November 6 at the Victoria Ground (7.45pm).
