TWO OF the in-form sides in the Skrill Conference North will meet at Holker Street tomorrow (Saturday) when Worcester City make the long trip to Barrow.

At the back end of last year, this game would have been billed as a relegation scrap, but a recent upturn in both teams performances have seen considerable rises up the table.

Since the turn of the year Carl Heeley’s men have have won six and lost four of their games, including impressive victories against promotion chasing Altrincham and Solihull Moors.

The Cumbria side, under the guidance of new manager Darren Edmondson, have won ten and drawn three of their last thirteen encounters, propelling themselves to 9th and into possible play-off contention.

Following City’s 2-1 victory over Stalybridge Celtic on Saturday (March 1) Heeley revealed number one ‘keeper Jose Veiga could be out for up to 6 weeks with a knee injury. Ryan Boot is expected to continue in goal.

Richard Munday is also set to miss the match but there was good news for The Blue and Whites with the return of long-term absentee Shab Khan to the substitutes bench for the weekend’s victory.

Heeley said: “It’s always tough, it’s a long journey and it’s going to be tough up there. They’ve been on an unbelievable run but ours isn’t too bad either so we go there full of confidence and they’re going to be in for a game that’s for certain.”

Worcester’s boss also admitted they were still actively looking to add to the squad before the game.

“There’s two or three irons in the fire potentially that could come off and if it does that will boost the numbers to where we’d like them to be for the run in,” he added.

Experienced midfielder, Martin Devaney, will be looking for a starting spot after joining the club on a deal until the end of the season.

The 33-year-old has played for Cheltenham Town, Watford and Barnsley in a career spanning more than 400 senior games.

“We were made aware of Martin’s availability by recent signing Wayne Thomas and knowing of his capabilities we had little hesitation in adding him to our squad,” Heeley added.

“He can play in a few positions and the quality he possesses will be a huge benefit to us during the run in to the end of the season.”
