City looking to end their away-day woes

Worcester Editorial 20th Dec, 2019   0

A TRIP to the Black Country awaits Worcester City this weekend as the Blue and Whites look to return to winning ways after taking a single point from two games in just over 48 hours.

After Saturday’s comeback 2-2 draw with Highgate United at the Victoria Ground, City’s away day blues struck again in a 3-2 reverse at Boldmere St Michaels on Monday night which leaves them tenth in the Midland League Premier Division.

Ash Vincent’s men will hit the road to visit Lye Town on Saturday (3pm), looking for an early Christmas present and three points to arrest a tale of two City’s in the league this season.

The Blue and Whites have won six of their ten games at the Victoria Ground this season with two draws and two defeats.

But on the road it’s a different tale with just one win and one draw in eight games.

City fell to a sixth away defeat in eight games on Monday evening at Boldmere. It was the fourth fixture for City in just ten days and as with Saturday’s clash against Highgate, the visitors were 2-0 down at half-time.

Owen Parry and Josh Cooke struck for the Mikes before hot-shot Sean Brain converted from the penalty spot on 53 minutes to bring City back into contention.

However, straight from the restart the Mikes restored their two-goal cushion as Parry notched his second.

A Liam Lockett cross was sliced into his own goal by Jermaine Johnson in the closing stages but despite constant pressure City were unable to draw level.

Last Saturday, City found themselves 2-0 down inside 20 minutes against visitors Highgate.

Edilson Panzo-Antonio struck inside two minutes and Stuart Hendrie doubled the lead on 17 minutes.

But City sub Jordan Harrison’s quality finish after Sean Brain’s break gave them hope on 69 minutes and Marco Adaggio made it 2-2 12 minutes from time.
