City look to avenge FA Vase defeat with visit to Highgate

WORCESTER City will be looking to avenge their FA Vase exit at the hands of Highgate United by returning to winning ways when the teams meet again this weekend.

The Blue and Whites travel to Solihull (kick off 3pm) on the back of their first home defeat of the season as former City man Marco Adaggio returned to haunt his former side.

And with the chasing pack beginning to bunch up behind leaders Coleshill Town, joint bosses Lee Hughes and John Snape will be looking for a positive result against their league rivals.

A robust first half on Saturday saw both City and United get stuck in and the home side felt they should have had a penalty when Hughes was brought down in the box.

The interval saw the teams go in level but Highgate broke the deadlock through Josh Hawker early in the second half.

Adaggio’s familiar back flip celebration was on show just minutes later as the forward poked home to hand Highgate the advantage and ultimately a place in the next round.

Hughes had the ball in the net but it was ruled out for offside before City were handed a lifeline as skipper Nathan Hayward turned the ball home to set up a grandstand finish.

But despite late chances, City’s road to Wembley came to a dead end meaning the Blue and Whites have only promotion from the Midland Football League Premier Division to play for this season.
