WORCESTER City hit the Road to Wembley this weekend looking to recover from two defeats in two games as the curtain came up on their new Midland Premier Division campaign.
The Blue and Whites travel to Walsall Wood on Saturday (kick off 3pm) in the FA Cup extra preliminary round on the back of a 3-2 reverse at Boldmere St Michaels and Monday night’s 2-1 defeat at Romulus.
Former Ciy man Bekir Halil and Mitchell Piggon took advantage of some slack marking at set-pieces to put Romulus 2-0 ahead after just 20 minutes and City were unable to snatch a point despite a wonderful goal from a free-kick from player-coach Mat Birley.
City looked set for an impressive start to the season when they dominated Saturday’s visit to Sutton Coldfield against Boldmere, with last season’s top scorer Dave Reynolds opening his account for the new campaign after just three minutes.
The hot-shot was teed up by the impressive Liam Lockett but defensive lapses allowed Stuart Capaldi and Andre Carvalho-Landell to put the hosts in command.
However when City’s Jamie Smith headed home an equaliser from a corner with 10 minutes to go it looked as though City would get off to a winning start.
But Ryan Shaw’s injury-time winner meant it was no points from the opening day for John Snape’s men.
