A ‘MENTALLY draining’ Skrill Conference North campaign is set to come to an end tomorrow (Saturday) when Worcester City host Boston United.
City boss Carl Heeley used the term following their 4-0 defeat at Hednesford last Monday (April 21) and he will be looking for his side to bounce back and finish the season with three points at Aggborough.
Just one win in their last seven has seen the Blue and Whites aim of a top half finish cut short, but victory could still see them end as high as 13th, a position which looked well out of reach at the turn of the year.
The visitors still retain outside hopes of a play-off spot and victory in Kidderminster, coupled with a defeat for Guiseley at home to Gloucester City, would see Dennis Greene’s men secure a top-five spot.
The omens look good for United, who beat Worcester 2-1 back in August and have only lost once in their last 11 outings, including six victories.
Heeley admitted after the Hednesford defeat he hadn’t thought about the team to start tomorrow, and with several likely to be playing their last game for the club, the starting XI could see a host of changes.
One man sure to miss out is Danny Edwards, who suffered a suspected broken ankle in the fixture on Easter Monday.
Ahead of the game Heeley said: “I’m pleased we haven’t got relegated because at the end of 2013 you’d have struggled to find anybody supporting Worcester City who would have predicted what’s happened, so overall I’m delighted we’ve achieved our goal.
“We set ourselves up to be difficult to beat because we felt that would get us over the line and it has done.”
The Worcester faithful are set to be keeping an eye on fixtures elsewhere, which could see local rivals Hereford relegated to the Skrill North, if they don’t win at Aldershot Town.
AFC Telford will also secure promotion from the division with a home success over Gainsborough Trinity.
