WORCESTER City fired a blank as they were held to a goalless draw at Oxford City in their Skrill North Conference game.
The result means both sides are still searching for their second win of the season and leaves City above the relegation zone on goal difference.
City made the trip to Marsh Lane on Saturday (October 19) in a game described by Oxford boss Mike Ford, as their most important to date.
In a game of few chances Oxford came closest in the opening stages, Tom Winters clipped the ball back to Steve Basham, but the veteran fired wide at the near post.
A dangerous free-kick from Winters evaded everyone in the six yard box and bounced just past Jose Veiga’s goal.
City started to press towards the end of the half, and Graham Hutchinson had the chance to put them in front, but his header from a Tom Thorley corner sailed over the bar.
The visitors started the second half the way they ended the first, and Danny Glover twice had opportunities to open the scoring, the first forcing Victor Francoz into action, before firing wide ten minutes later.
Jose Veiga was finally called into action after 70 minutes. The hosts were awarded a free-kick and Jamie Cook teed up Winters, the midfielders effort was destined for the top corner but Veiga got to his right and tipped the ball wide.
City had a late shout for a penalty when substitute Niall Thompson went down under a challenge from Declan Benjamin, but the referee waved away protests and the game finished all square.
City manager, Carl Heeley, said: “We were the only team trying to play any football that’s for certain.
“We’ve come away to the biggest spenders in the league and they just whacked it and hoped for the best and I thought we defended it comfortably.
“I’m pleased with our boys today, they’ve grafted hard, they’ve worked, they’ve matched them, and it’s the least we deserve.”
