City fire warning with Forsyth’s rocket

MIDFIELDER Bekir Halil could be set for his home debut as Worcester City entertain Coventry United at the Victoria Ground this weekend.

A fixture-free midweek will allow the Blue and Whites to recover from three away games in a week which brought seven points from a possible nine including a 1-0 victory at leaders Coleshill Town on Saturday.

George Forsyth’s thunderbolt earned City all three points at Pakc Meadow and the result leaves John Snape and Lee Hughes’ men six points behind new leaders Bromsgrove Sporting in the Midlands League Premier Division title race.

Halil made his debut in the Coleshill clash after signing on the dotted line from Hinckley AFC having also had spells at Sporting Khalsa and Alvechurch.

An early chance fell to Nathan Hayward as City looked to make their intentions clear from their start.

A teasing corner from Alex Tomkinson just evaded Forsyth before Halil won the ball, turned sharply and fired in a effort that crept just wide of the target.

There were a couple of smart saves in quick success from City No 1 Nathan Vaughan to deny the Colemen before Wayne Thomas did well to clear the danger from a home corner.

A teasing ball into the danger zone from Halil just before half-time caused concern but it just evaded both Hughes and Dave Reynolds in front of goal as the home side breathed a huge sigh of relief.

City had the ball in the net with just over 20 minutes to go, but the offside flag halted Hughes’ celebrations before they had even started.

After the home side went close with an 83rd-minute header that landed inches wide of the post, City took the lead two minutes later when Forsyth tried his luck from the edge of the area and the ball flew in off the post.

This Saturday, City will be looking to avenge the 3-0 defeat at the hands of Coventry in August and kick off is 3pm.
