City bid to seal first round place

THE FA Cup takes centre stage for Worcester City when they host Lincoln City in the Fourth Qualifying round at Aggborough on Saturday (October 26, 3pm kick off).

Victory will ensure Carl Heeley’s men go into the hat for the first round proper which could see them given a dream tie against the likes of Football League powerhouses Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sheffield United or Coventry City.

Last season City made it to the Fourth Qualifying round but were eliminated in the 90th minute in a defeat to Bromley, something Heeley is keen to erase from the memories.

“Last season we got beat with with the last kick of the game against Bromley and it was heart breaking,” he said. “Every one of the lads that played in that game still have it fresh in the mind and will be up for this one.

“Again, we have got another home draw. We would ideally like to get a lower ranked team but we can’t complain, another home draw against an ex-football league club.

“I feel now that the Conference Premier is like an extra league in the Football League, it’s that competitive and just littered with ex-football league clubs.

“It’s going to be very tough for us but we have to go out and do what Coventry Sphinx and Rugby Town wanted to do to us.”

Loanee Phil Trainer could be in contention for the tie, after not featuring in the previous rounds due to restrictions placed by his club Nuneaton, but Heeley revealed he wants the midfielder in the squad for Saturday.

“There is a 24-hour recall system with his loan, and my thoughts are if he doesn’t get called back then there is a chance he will play for us,” he added.

“I understand his situation now but it’s the last qualification round and Nuneaton could go out, they could go through, it’s the same with us.

“My opinion is that if he is not called back then he can play for us.”

Lincoln City currently lie in 13th position in the Skrill Conference Premier and will visit Aggborough for the second time in a week, following a 4-1 defeat against Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday (October 19).
