City aim to return to action as fixtures re-arranged

Worcester Editorial 11th Jan, 2018   0

WORCESTER City hope to welcome Lye Town to the Victoria Ground on Saturday in their latest bid to take to the field for the first time in 2018.

Last Saturday’s postponement of the trip to Heanor Town due to a waterlogged pitch meant the Blue and Whites have played just twice since November 25.

The cancellation of the trip to Derbyshire denied the City the chance to prove a point after the second-half collapse on Boxing Day against Bromgrove Sporting.

Worcester had led 3-0 lead but a nightmare second half allowed their landlords a share of the spoils at the Victoria Ground.

John Snape and Lee Hughes’ side will be looking to kick off 2018 with a win against their 14th-placed visitors.

City remain eight points from the top of the Midland Football League Premier Division with as many as four games in hand over their promotion rivals.

And the Blue and Whites will be looking to record a double over their Black Country visitors following a 1-0 win in September.

Dave Reynolds found the back of the net for the first time in three games to secure all three points and hand City their first away with of the campaign.

WORCESTER City will have to wait until April to tackle landlords Bromsgrove Sporting in a game rearranged from New Year’s Day.

The Midland League Premier Division clash will take place on Tuesday, April 10 at the Victoria Ground, with a 7.45pm kick-off.

The initial clash was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and is among a host of fixtures rescheduled.

The Blue and Whites have been hit by recent snow, ice and rain and have been able to play just two games in six weeks. In the first of the rearranged fixtures, City travel to Stourport Swifts next Tuesday, again at 7.45pm.

Trips to Westfields and AFC Wulfrunians will take place on January 24 and February 6 respectively, both at 7.45pm.

Meanwhile the home clash with Shawbury United will take place on Tuesday, March 13 with a 7.45pm kick off.

A new date for last Saturday’s postponed clash at Heanor Town is yet to be arranged
