Caylin is injury doubt for season opener

WORCESTER Wolves’ news signing Caylin Raftopoulos hopes to shake off a sprained ankle in time to face his former club Surrey United this weekend.

The promising 20-year-old guard left Surrey Sports Park in the summer to join Paul James’ new-look Worcester squad and should he be fit he could make his Wolves debut at his former home on Saturday night.

Since moving to the Midlands, Raftopoulos has been quickly made quickly made to feel at home by his new team-mates and said he is relishing the new campaign.

“I’ve settled in pretty fast,” he said. “I’ve been in Worcester for three weeks and all the guys have taken to me well, so I’m really looking forward to the season ahead.”

Caylin, the son of former Surrey coach Creon Raftopoulos, also said he holds no grudges against his former club ahead of the weekend encounter.

“To be honest the Surrey game won’t be any different to how I’d look at playing against any other team,” he added. “Surrey have a completely new roster and coaching staff so there’s no personal significance at all.

“I think my role will be very similar to the one I played at Surrey – control the tempo of the game and be able to consistently knock down open shots when given the opportunity.”
