NEW SIGNING Tevita Cavubati could make his debut for Worcester Warriors when they take on Sale Sharks at the AJ Bell Stadium tonight (Friday).
The Fijian lock’s first appearance for the club has been delayed due to visa issues following his exploits at the Rugby World Cup.
But the 28-year-old now looks poised to wear Warriors’ jersey for the first time after being selected on the bench alongside the returning Ryan Lamb, Ben Howard and Val Rapava Ruskin.
Na’ama Leleimalefaga was a late replacement for Rapava Ruskin and he retains his place at loosehead as director of rugby Dean Ryan picks an unchanged side.
Worcester stunned last season’s table toppers Northampton Saints 13-12 thanks to a dramatic last-gasp drop goal from Tom Heathcote.
And Ryan has urged his side, which will be led by GJ Van Velze, to repeat their opening day of the season showing when they face Sale.
“It was really pleasing to get the win last week but now we’ve got an opportunity to go away from home and try and replicate that performance,” Ryan said.
“One of the most positive things we talked about was that we can improve, but we’ve got to be as committed and physical again.
“With Danny Cipriani at ten they’re a lot more inventive in attack and it puts more stress on individuals rather than a test of your system.
“We’ve got to take a very different attack and see if we can get it under control. It’s a really different challenge and we have to test ourselves in a new environment.
“We haven’t come into the league to try and target different fixtures. We’re targeting every single weekend and everybody picked has to be capable of going right away.”
Warriors’ side to face Sale Sharks: Pennell, Biggs, Olivier, Mills, Vuna, Heathcote, Arr, Leleimalefaga, Annett, Schonert, O’Callaghan, Barry, Dowson, Mama, Van Velze (c).
