Cavubati itching to impress against Tigers

WARRIORS lock Tevita Cavubati insists he feels ‘stronger and fitter than ever’ and is itching to get out on the field and to prevail against Leicester Tigers.

The 6ft 7in second rower, who was banned from playing rugby for nine weeks in February after biting London Irish’s Jebb Sinclair, made an impressive comeback off the bench in the clash against Wasps in their last outing on Saturday, April 16, where he almost battered his way over the tryline.

And despite only playing 30 minutes, the Fijian was among the weekend’s top league stats, making three offloads and beating four defenders.

“I was so excited to get on the pitch against Wasps. I wanted to get my hands on the ball at every opportunity,” Cavubati said.

“I had a couple of good runs and remember looking at the tryline and wanting to reach out, but I got caught just short.

“I’ve missed playing and now I just want to give it my all. It’s great to be back.

“I’ve been working really hard on my power and speed by doing lots of weights and conditioning work in the gym.

“The time away from playing has meant I’ve been able to recoup and I’m ready to go again. After working very closely with the backroom staff to make sure I can be in the best place possible, I feel stronger and fitter than ever,” he added.

Warriors travel to Welford Road this Saturday (April 30) to take on title-chasing Leicester Tigers, but Cavubati insists he knows the kind of test his side will face.

“I know a lot of the guys that have come from the Pacific islands in Tigers’ squad, like Telusa Veainu, Peter Betham and Manu Tuilagi. We meet up and hang out sometimes so I’m familiar with some of the threats Leicester possess.

“There will be some big hits but I can’t wait. I will put my body on the line and hopefully we can pull off a huge result against one of the best sides in the league.”
