HOMEGROWN talent Jonny Arr has signalled his intentions to play a key role in Worcester Warriors’ long-term progression by penning a new deal to extend his stay at the club.

The scrum-half came through the Warriors ranks before making his first-team debut back in 2007, and has gone on to become one of the club’s most senior players with 173 appearances to date – the highest in the current squad.

The 27-year-old gained international honours with the England Under-20s back in 2008 and picked up the ‘Young Player of the Year’ and ‘Most Improved Player of the Year’ awards, after a superb 2009/2010 Warriors campaign.

He was also voted ‘Player of the Season’ in Worcester’s promotion-winning 2010/2011 season, and played an integral part in the promotion last season, making 22 appearances.

“Having been involved with Warriors since I was ten, I’ve witnessed a lot of change at the club, but under the current regime we’re in the perfect place to become the best we’ve ever been,” said Arr.

“It’s clear to see the development around the club over the past two campaigns and I want to continue to be a part of developing Warriors into a successful top-tier side.

“Both promotions were special nights during my time at Warriors and hopefully now we’ll be able to push on, and I’ll be able to experience plenty more memorable moments throughout this next chapter of my career,” he added.

Director of rugby, Dean Ryan, said: “Jonny epitomises everything we’re trying to achieve at this club. He recognises the importance of competition for places to make a strong squad and continues to raise his game.

“His commitment, professionalism and experience are key attributes and he’s a great role model for our younger players. Jonny will continue to play a significant role at the club”

The length of his new contract has not been disclosed by the club.
