Black Country trip awaits City after United defeat

A TRIP to the Black Country awaits Worcester City as the Blue and Whites contemplate the prospect of 10 league and cup games in the next month.

After Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat by Coventry United to the Victoria Ground, Ash Vincent’s men face Tividale on Saturday before a trip to Pershore on Monday (October 28) to face Malvern Town in the Worcestershire Senior Cup.

This tie will now take place at Pershore Town due to the recent bad weather holding up the progress on Malvern Town’s ground improvements.

City then face eight games in 28 days in a packed November which kicks off with a game at the Victoria Ground next Saturday (November 2) against Dunkirk in the FA Vase.

On the field, City ended South Normanton Athletic’s 100 per cent home league record with a 1-1 draw at the weekend.

With the game kicking off 30 minutes late due to the referee being delayed, it was an end to end from the start with both sides having opportunities throughout the game.

City opened the scoring after the home side conceded a free kick on the left after Sean Brain was fouled. Liam Lockett’s perfectly weighted kick was then glanced home by Brain on 27 minutes.

Within seven minutes the scores were level. Kurtis Mewies gave away a needless free kick away, 10 yards outside the box.

The resulting kick was charged down but Hanslow’s resulting cross was deflected in past a stranded Dan Jezeph.

The second half saw chances for both sides, with City getting off to a better start. City had two opportunities from long goal kicks but Brain was unable to make the most of the situations.

City were indebted to the glovework of Jezeph in goal to keep the scores level and secure a share of the spoils with the point leaving the Blue and Whites 13th in the Midland Premier League table before tonight’s clash
