Biggs still hopeful of league switch

RUGBY league fanatic Tom Biggs has revealed he has not given up hope on one day switching codes despite seeing his dream move to Hull FC fall through.

The 30-year-old looked set to join the Super League outfit at the end of the last season after agreeing a three-year contract with his home-town club in October 2013.

But when Bath refused to let the wing leave in March to begin pre-season preparations with Hull, the deal broke down, which Biggs admitted was a big blow.

“I was massive excited about moving into rugby league as it is something I have wanted to do as I have supported Hull FC throughout my whole childhood,” he said.

“It was not just about playing for Hull FC, it was about going back home and being around friends and family, so I was very disappointed and still am that things have not worked out.”

This opened up an opportunity for director of rugby Dean Ryan to snap up the former England Saxons star. And Biggs said he was determined to play an instrumental role in helping Worcester Warriors bounce back to the Aviva Premiership.

“I did not get an awful lot of opportunities last year at Bath, so I did not want to go through another season of not really having much of an impact,” he said.

“While nothing is guaranteed here, it is a new start for me and there is a massive chance to grow here.”

However, Biggs admitted he would still like to fulfil his ambition of playing in the Super League before he hangs up his boots.

“I would love the opportunity to play rugby league one day. Whether or not that will happen, I am not sure,” he added.

“It is certainly something which I have always followed and would always be a fan of as it is such a fantastic sport. It has had such a big influence on rugby union, with the amount of players and coaches coming across, so it is something I am very fond of and I would like to play one day.

“But at the moment I am still fully focused on making Worcester successful.”
