Age is no barrier says Hogg

HEAD coach Carl Hogg has admitted the coaches are finding it difficult to “define” the make-up of Worcester Warriors’ squad due to the amount of youngsters putting their hands up for selection.

Despite having a squad of 41 players, which is bigger than last season’s crop, Warriors have still handed opportunities to their academy aces.

Talented fly half Tiff Eden, promising prop Mike Daniels and exciting lock Christian Scotland-Williamson have featured in the Greene King IPA Championship so far this season.

And Hogg said they would not hold back in throwing more of the club’s rising stars into the first team mix if they continue to impress in training or for Worcester Cavaliers, which has featured a number of academy players.

“It is difficult to define our squad because there are players here who are in various stages of their development,” Hogg said. “It is very difficult to categorise whether they are first team players, Cavaliers or academy players.

“We just see everyone in the same development pathway and if we can produce a young player at 17, 18 or 19 who pushes up threw then ultimately he will move up through the progress stages whether that is Cavaliers or first team.

“The key is to produce an environment where they learn, they get better and they get opportunities. Then the responsibility sits with them.

“It is about creating a platform for them to go and perform to their full potential.”
