Adams’ clincher keeps Wales on course for Grand Slam

Worcester Editorial 27th Feb, 2019   0

WALES wing Josh Adams broke England’s hearts and ended their hopes of a Grand Slam in this year’s Six Nations when he scored the match-clinching try in Cardiff on Saturday.

Adams grabbed Dan Biggar’s crossfield kick and went over for a late try to clinch a 21-13 win at the Principality Stadium and complete Wales’ second-half comeback.

It was Adams’ second try in as many Six Nations matches, following his maiden score against Italy in Rome two weeks previously, and his third in international rugby.

Adams helped Wales to their 12th consecutive international win, a record for them, and keeps them on course for a Grand Slam of their own in head coach Warren Gatland’s final Six Nations.

Adams was the only Warriors player on senior international duty this weekend.

Centre Ben Te’o missed out on a place in England’s matchday squad though he was in Cardiff as a travelling reserve.

A knee injury ruled hooker Joe Taufete’e out of USA’s Americas Rugby Championship match against Brazil in Austin.

Loosehead prop Kai Owen and lock James Scott were both replacements for England Under-20s in their 11-10 Six Nations defeat by Wales at Colwyn Bay on Friday.

Valkyries captain and hooker Lark Davies tasted victory against her club-mates Alex Callender, Jasmine Joyce, Alisha Butchers and Ffion Lewis as England Women beat Wales 51-12 at Cardiff Arms Park on Sunday.

Davies came on as a replacement in England’s third successive win in this season’s Six Nations while Callender made her first start for Wales. Joyce also started with Butchers and Lewis coming off the bench.

England Women head coach Simon Middleton said: “We’re really pleased with the result – to score 50 points in any game is impressive but to score 50 today is testament to some skillful play and to staying in the game and overcoming some frustration to finish strong.”
