Zebra crossing gets green light

Worcester Editorial 19th Jun, 2020   0

COUNTY highways chiefs have given the green light for the installation of a new zebra crossing halfway down Tolladine Road, following calls from local Labour councillors.

Work on the new crossing, which will be located just east of Kenwood Avenue, is anticipated to take place from September 1 to 11.

Coun Ceri Stalker, who represents the Warndon and Gorse Hill Division on the County Council, said: “Residents have been telling us for a long time that there is an urgent need to provide a safe crossing for pedestrians on Tolladine Road.

“I’m delighted having been able to secure the money to identify a crossing site, the County Council have now agreed to go ahead and install a zebra crossing, which is badly needed.

“I’d like to also give a massive thanks to everyone at the County Council highways team who has worked with us to make this happen.”

Coun Roger Berry, who represents Gorse Hill Ward on Worcester City Council, said: “As Labour councillors, we have been campaigning on the issue of road safety for residents over a number of years.

“It is fantastic we have now been able to get the County Council to agree to create a new safe crossing on Tolladine Road.

“This is a great step forwards and the improvement will benefit all residents in the area.”
