Youth parliament co-founder for Lib Dems

WORCESTER Liberal Democrats have selected a businessman and co-founder of the UK Youth Parliament to be their candidate for the snap General Election.

Stephen Kearney will contest the seat for the Lib Dems on Thursday, June 8 and has been described as one of the party’s rising stars.

Mr Kearney co-founded the UK’s Youth Parliament and is currently the director of an online grooming products company, as well as a visiting lecturer at the University of Brighton. He also worked with the Cabinet Office on a project to train 5,000 volunteers.

“I’m proud to be standing in Worcester,” Mr Kearney said.

“My city deserves a new and revolutionary approach that is completely rooted in hope, optimism, entrepreneurialism and compassion. I am sick of the current messages of hate, pessimism and despair offered by the distant political elite.

“Basic strategic thinking in Worcester is lacking.

“The city will soon connect with Kempsey because of development proposals in St Peters and the establishment parties seem to think another ring road is the only answer.

“The county has been shamed by Ofsted because it fails to care for children and our NHS is under threat. Politically the last 20 years have been disastrous for Worcester. Well enough is enough.

“Worcester needs a completely different approach and I am going to offer that,” he added.
