A TIME capsule video of the Covid-19 lockdown was watched by members of Worcestershire Youth Cabinet to reflect on 2020.

Children and young people submitted time capsule entries to demonstrate their experiences of lockdown – which included photos of empty highstreets and taped off playgrounds, as well as poems about missing friends.

The Youth Cabinet met, alongside Coun Steve Mackay, to watch the video of all the entries and reflect on what they have achieved since the pandemic.

Coun Mackay, Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for children and families said: “It was great to watch the time capsule celebration, it certainly brought back memories of the 2020 lockdown and the challenges our children and young people faced.

“It’s really important for me to come along to the Youth Cabinet meetings to hear about all the things that are effecting the lives of children and young people in Worcestershire.

“This is reported back to the Corporate Parenting Board which is a great help in making decisions about the support and services we’re providing for them.”

The youth cabinet provides a platform for young people aged 11 to 18 to get involved in political matters.

Anusha Salhan, chair of Worcestershire Youth Cabinet said: “Watching the Time Capsule created during lockdown was particularly impactful for me, as it was the pandemic that initially motivated me to join.

“I was driven by a desire to help my community and other young people like myself, and since taking on the role of Chair last year, I am proud of the progress we have made.”

Youth Cabinet member, Miki, aged 18 said: “I joined Youth Cabinet because I wanted to socialise with people more and do what I do best to help young people to have their voices heard and make a difference.”

14 year old Tyler, another member of the Youth Cabinet added: “I joined Youth Cabinet because I was interested in making a change as a lot of young people are mistreated.”
