MORE THAN 1,500 people descended on the ‘hugely successful’ Worcestershire Skills Show.

Youngsters and employers from across the city flocked to the county’s largest annual skills event last Wednesday at Worcester Warriors’ Sixways Stadium.

The popular event, arranged by the ‘Connecting Schools and Business’ programme and funded by Worcestershire County Council, allowed children to meet with various businesses and participate in activities.

A wide range of companies attended the show including Square Eye TV, West Midlands Safari Park, Qinetic, The Royal Navy and Barclays.

During the show, children received high quality careers advice and began to understand the skills and qualifications needed to enter the industries that interest them.

Attendees also discussed their options for when they leave school with various colleges, the University of Worcester and Worcestershire Apprenticeships.

Coun Dr Ken Pollock, cabinet member with responsibility for economy, skills and infrastructure said: “Making decisions about future career paths is one of the most challenging aspects of a young person’s life.

“The Worcestershire Skills Show gives youngsters the chance to try out activities from a wide range of different careers, equipping them with the experience to make more informed decisions in the future and to have fun at the same time.

“The attendance was fantastic and it’s wonderful to see the how much the show was supported and enjoyed,” he added.
