Worcestershire community foundation announced new fund for community

THE WORCESTERSHIRE Community Foundation, in partnership with Worcestershire County Council, has announced the launch of the Strengthening Worcestershire Fund, a £200,000 funding programme aimed at supporting local communities through small grants.

This scheme seeks to address various needs across the county, with applications opening in early September and funds being delivered in December.

The Strengthening Worcestershire Fund is designed to support disadvantaged communities still grappling with the ongoing effects of the cost-of-living crisis.

The programme will deliver aid for a wide range of projects through charities, community groups, and social enterprises.

The fund will prioritise projects that tackle cost-of-living challenges, reduce loneliness and isolation, and help people stay safe and well within their communities.

Potential projects eligible for funding include community fridges and food banks, the establishment or expansion of local social groups, and training for staff and volunteers to provide advice and support to disadvantaged groups.

Charities and community groups of all kinds are encouraged to apply, with grants of up to £5,000 available for smaller projects.

Larger organisations and innovative projects with broader impacts can bid for up to £10,000 in funding.

In an exciting development, the Strengthening Worcestershire Fund offers a match-funding opportunity for local businesses and donors.

The programme aims to raise a total of £200,000, with every £1 donated being matched 1:1 by Worcestershire County Council, effectively doubling the impact of contributions.

This means that donations from businesses and people will be doubled, maximising the available funding for local projects.

Lucy Wells, director of Worcestershire Community Foundation, said: “We are delighted to be working with the Council on this new programme to support Worcestershire’s most needy areas.

“We urge businesses, charitable funders, and individual donors to take the opportunity to get involved so that together we can double the funding to help strengthen Worcestershire’s invaluable charitable sector.”

Hannah Perrott, assistant director for communities with Worcestershire County Council, said: “This is a unique programme which will help many people in local communities.

“We are really pleased to be working with the Community Foundation to develop this innovative approach to joint funding with the private sector.”
