ONE of Worcester’s most popular family attractions is ready for the summer holidays after a major refurbishment.
The Splashpad in Gheluvelt Park is a water-based play facility, which is free to use and attracts thousands of families every year.
Worcester City Council has invested £366,000 in a new water filtration system and safety surface for the facility, alongside new pumps and a water holding tank.
Several of the popular water features were also repaired and, with the summer holidays underway, the opening hours have just been extended so there is even more time to enjoy all the fun the Splashpad has to offer.
The Splashpad is now open from 11am to 6pm – seven days a week.
Council leader Coun Lynn Denham said: “The Splashpad is a much-loved attraction for families from Worcester and beyond, so I’m thrilled that this major refurbishment has been completed in time for the busy summer season.
“After 15 years of use, it’s only natural that the facility needed an upgrade.
“This investment means children, parents, and carers can enjoy a fully operational Splashpad that delivers the fun and excitement they expect when visiting Gheluvelt Park. And with closing time extended from 4pm to 6pm for the school holidays, there are more opportunities than ever to splash around in the summer sunshine.
“At Worcester City Council, we’re committed to continually improving play areas and equipment throughout the city.
“The Splashpad is one of our flagship facilities, and the refurbishment given us a more reliable play facility that is easier to maintain.”
