Worcester woman sampling life in the slow lane to raise cash

A WORCESTER hospice worker will ride the length of Britain at a ‘snail’s pace’ in memory of her mum.

Victoria Wright, from Lower Broadheath, will ride a Honda C90 Cub motorbike from the most northern point of Britain at John O’Groats to the most southerly at Lands’ End dressed as a snail, all in aid of St Richard’s Hospice.

Hoping to complete her challenge in one week and to raise at least £1,000 for the cause, Victoria will set off on the 975-mile challenge on Sunday, July 3, wearing a full shell and headpiece with eyes on tentacles.

She will be taking on the challenge in memory of her mum, Gill Walker, who was cared for by the hospice before her death last year.

Victoria said: “I lost my beautiful and unbelievably brave Mum to cancer last January. When we heard that she had been diagnosed with bowel cancer, we knew it would be a battle but nothing could prepare us for just how hard it would be.

“When the suggestion was made that she could go into a hospice to manage her symptoms and help to build her back up to continue treatment

“I remember her being reluctant. But St Richard’s Hospice became the one place that felt really comforting for her to be and it is no exaggeration to say that it is a truly inspirational place.

“The care that they provide and the dignity that they treat their patients with is second to none.

“I’m expecting many challenges along the way, weather, breakdowns and roadside repairs, not to mention earache and sore muscles.

“One thing that is certain though is that it will be slow progress. The Cub is many things but fast it is not, think 45mph downhill with the wind behind me.

“I would love to raise as much money as I possibly can to repay them in a small way in my Mum’s memory, but also to help ensure that they can continue to provide the care and support to others.”
